Typical Valley Prices
Some prices are a total for the job. A rekey is priced per lock with the visit added on top. When you hear a number on the phone, ask if it is the total for the whole job or just one part.
What Moves the Price
- The hardware. A standard deadbolt is quick. High security cylinders, commercial hardware and smart locks take more time and tools.
- The clock. A lockout at 3 in the morning costs more to staff than one at 3 in the afternoon.
- The distance. A company inside the valley reaches you faster than one sending calls from another state.
- The count. More locks mean more labor, so six cylinders cost more than two.
What should never move the price is the technician showing up. If the number doubles at your door, you can say no.

A Quick Example
Take a five lock home. At $20 to $50 per lock plus a $45 to $90 visit, the rekey comes to about $145 to $340. Five new installed deadbolts with the same visit come to about $545 to $1,590. If your locks still work, rekeying is the better buy.
Common Questions
Does insurance or AAA ever cover this?
Sometimes. Many roadside plans pay back car lockouts up to a set limit, and some home policies cover locks after a break in. Keep your receipt and ask your carrier.
